Many of you may have attended a Chesapeake Society of Microscopy meeting in the past. Others of you responded to an e-mail about interest in a rejuvenated local microscopy society. Whatever your specific case may be, I am pleased to announce that the first meeting of the Chesapeake Microscopy and Microanalysis Society will be held on January 14th, 2014. We are very excited to have Dale Greenwalt of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History as our speaker that evening. A flyer for the meeting is attached and I hope that you will post it and spread the word of the meeting to all who may be interested.
A bit about the society: The CMMS was born out of a desire to revitalize the former CSM while expanding its purview and appeal to cover not just biological microscopy but to also include the material sciences and micro analyses. The hope is that the society will be a common ground and resource for everyone in the greater D.C./Baltimore metro area who utilizes any type of microscopy. The current board pro tem of the society is: Cam Robinson, Robert Pope, Christine Brantner, and Ru-chin Hsia. CMMS is a registered Maryland corporation.
I look forward to seeing many of you on the 14th.
